While it is very difficult for a citizen to affect change at the federal level on the illegal alien issue, citizens can have a significant impact individually or in groups at the state and local levels.  Getting together with like minded citizens and demanding legislative change from your state or local elected officials, or joining an organization that does this can be one of the most effective ways of turning around the situation in your community.  While the federal government has failed to enact necessary reforms that will get and keep illegal aliens out of our country, several states and localities have enacted measures that work tremendously well.

Arizona, Georgia, and Oklahoma, for example, have passed tough laws cracking down on illegal aliens and those who employ them, and illegal aliens are leaving.

Farmers Branch, TX, Hazleton PA and Prince William County, VA have all enacted local legislation that have encouraged illegal aliens to leave.

We don't have to wait for the federal government to finally do something to provide relief to communities that are suffering the impacts related to the unlawful presence of illegal aliens.  State and local governments can act more quickly, are usually more responsive to constituent concerns, and are not as heavily influenced by employers who profit from cheap illegal alien labor.
